The Citadel - The Military College of South Carolina. Visit a site of American military tradition by stopping by the The Citadel during your trip to South Carolina. Established in 1842, this public university is renowned for its unique Corp of Cadets program and disciplined curriculum. The campus is stretched over 300 acres of land comprised of 27 buildings and a large grass parading ground used by their famous marching and pipe bands. Perhaps the most popular location on the campus to visit, however, are the undergraduate living quarters, or “barracks”, where you can view the beautiful red and white checker boarded design of the building’s square.
